The extension of Louisiana's managed Medicaid program came in December 2017. The renewal means Louisiana residents will have continued access to population health management that improves patient health and saves costs in the long term. In addition to Medicaid expansion, the federally facilitated health insurance exchange is helping reduce Louisiana's uninsured rate as hundreds of thousands of residents seek subsidies. Exchange premiums are increasing for 2021. Off the exchange, commercial enrollment has fallen slightly. The state is looking to issue new Medicaid managed care contracts in 2021.
