Intravascular Imaging and Assessment: Is Seeing Believing?

DRG’s Physician Forum surveyed interventional cardiologists—both users and nonusers of vascular imaging and lesion assessment technologies—in order to develop a deeper understanding of where these technologies are currently being used, what forces are affecting adoption in these markets, what the future potential for these technologies is, and how will they change the IC device market. This study surveyed 77 US-based interventional cardiologists.

Questions Answered in This Report:

  • What are physicians' current clinical perceptions of the usefulness of angiography? Are recent studies questioning its accuracy affecting their perception and use of the procedure?

  • How are physicians currently diagnosing patients and lesions that require intervention? How does this differ by patient and lesion type?

  • How will changing use of vascular imaging affect diagnostic angiography and PCI volumes?

  • What forces are driving future usage trends of FFR, IVUS, and OCT?

  • What is the potential for new competing modalities, such as NIRS, iFR, and FFRCT?
