Pennsylvania-Mid-Atlantic | Fall | 2010 | Health Plan Analysis

A still-struggling economy has done nothing to improve commercial enrollment trends in the Pennsylvania-Mid-Atlantic region. Consumers and employers are increasingly turning to consumer-directed health plan options, which have seen significant enrollment gains, allowing insurers in some instances to offset lackluster enrollment in other commercial plan designs. Virginia is expanding its Medicaid program to 16 additional counties and while it's hoped the expansion will lead to cost savings for the state, it's not likely to be enough and the adjustments to the state's prescription drug list are likely. In Pennsylvania, one of the state's major Blue plans has reworked its small-group offerings, embedding pharmacy benefits within its medical plans.
