WellCare's proposed acquisition by Centene represents a union of two very similar companies: both focused exclusively on government-supported healthcare and both built through an aggressive acquisition and expansion strategy. Tampa, Florida-based WellCare Health Plans offers Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and Medicare Part D products. In addition to its strategy of growth by acquisition, WellCare executives have focused on same-state expansion through new contracts.
