Now that UPMC and Pinnacle Health have completely merged, the future state of competition in the market is becoming clearer. Penn State Health is constructing a new hospital just a mile from UPMC Pinnacle West Shore, and UPMC Pinnacle is answering with an expansion of the facility’s capacity. WellSpan Health, which recently completed a merger with Summit Health, continues to stay invested in the market with the construction of new facilities. UPMC Pinnacle and Geisinger Health both expanded partnerships with Aetna and Highmark, which seems ripe for development as competition becomes more intense in the market.
