InterStudy Publications, a division of Decision Resources, announced today the release of The Interstudy Competitive Edge Regional Market Analysis, a report providing access to accurate HMO data organized by Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The report finds that as national HMO enrollment continues to decline, the decline is sharper for HMOs located in Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA). From July 1, 2000 to July 1, 2001 there has been a decrease of 2.3 million enrollees in HMOs at the MSA level.

"Our report, The InterStudy Competitive Edge Regional Market Analysis, is a tool that let's HMOs know where they stand as far as physician reimbursement methods, Medicare enrollment and other characteristic that shape their economic standing," said Tammy Lauer, director of InterStudy Publications research. "Based on our findings, we learned that HMOs are going through a period of holding steady with market share and working on getting back onto a good financial footing, while contemplating expansion plans through acquisitions and expanding their product lines."

The report contains data on the 326 MSAs with HMO enrollment as of July 1, 2001. Most of the data in the report is based on an extensive survey conducted by the InterStudy division of Decision Resources. The report allows organizations to compare themselves to other HMOs in similar metropolitan levels as well as how it compares to other markets and nationally.
