Detailed Analysis Available Live From HealthLeaders-InterStudy What: Live access to an analyst specializing in Medicare markets Who: Market Analyst Paula DeWitt How: Available to speak to media by phone and in person -- Nashville, Tenn.

On Friday, September 23, 2005, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued its approval to plans that will offer Medicare prescription drug coverage starting January 1, 2006.

These prescription drug plans are a creation of the Medicare Modernization act, and are an unprecedented form of health care coverage. No such prescription-only, at-risk health plan has been licensed to operate before. While all of these drug plans seem optimistic that they can show a profit, each regional market will have between 11 and 20 organizations offering Medicare drug coverage. Competition for available Medicare members is likely to be fierce, and the expense of acquiring these members correspondingly high.

Paula DeWitt, HealthLeaders-InterStudy Market Analyst specializing in Medicare issues, is available to handicap the prescription drug plan competition in your regional market.

Ms. DeWitt expects to see significant market shakeout in the coming year, with significant differences between one regional market and another. She can address such issues as:

-- Who has the experience and financial backing to be successful in these markets? -- Who might show significant losses? -- What are the consequences of failing drug plans likely to be for the Medicare recipients who choose them?

To speak with Ms. DeWitt, please contact Alex Jablokow at Decision Resources at 781-296-2562 or ajablokow@dresources.com.

Interest in Medicare Prescription Drug Plans surpassed all expectations, with many more bids submitted than anyone expected:

-- Prescription drug plans have been approved in every state. -- Ten plans will be offering coverage nationwide. -- Each multistate prescription drug plan region will have between 11 and 20 organizations offering coverage. -- Every state but Alaska will have a prescription drug plan with a monthly premium of less than $20.
