InterStudy Publications, a division of Decision Resources, Inc., announces the release of The InterStudy HMO County Surveyor Database 5.5. The database allows users to analyze individual HMO market share by total HMO, Medicare, and Medicaid enrollment at the county level.

The County Surveyor's data showed, as of July 1, 2002, that seven out of eight counties with the greatest HMO enrollment continued to be in California. The overall HMO enrollment increased in these counties from January 2002 to July 2002, and a majority of the increase came from the larger operating HMOs (HMO with at least 13% of county enrollment).

"Los Angeles County continued to have the greatest total HMO enrollment at 5,419,786 lives," said Lance Wolkenbrod, database specialist for InterStudy Publications. "This represents over 55% of the population enrolled in an HMO. The county with the greatest level of HMO enrollment as a percentage of its population is Orleans County in New York, with 36,277 of its 43,891 residents (82.7%) enrolled in an HMO."

County-level HMO data is available in multiple formats. Organizations can order single-page County Surveyor Profiles, State Reports featuring PDF profiles and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, or the national Database. The HMO County Surveyor Database 5.5 includes a new easy-to-use interactive HTML map that allows users to view county-level profiles.
