HealthLeaders-InterStudy, the leading provider of managed care market intelligence, reports that more companies are moving out of their traditional geographic and product niches in search of new members and money in Tennessee. According to the latest Tennessee Health Plan Analysis, major national healthcare firms are poised to compete for the state's Medicaid business in the East and West segments of the state, owing to the healthy results for contractors AmeriChoice and AMERIGROUP in Middle Tennessee.
Tennessee's Medicaid program, known as TennCare, will receive bids from healthcare companies to operate as managed care organizations in West and East Tennessee, with each contract representing approximately 180,000 lives.
"Word has gone out in the managed care arena that healthcare companies can make a reasonable return in the TennCare program now. That hasn't been the case in the past," said Don Mooradian, market analyst for HealthLeaders- InterStudy. "State officials are expecting a crowd of companies to bid on both the East and West Tennessee contracts."
Also in the Tennessee report, Coventry is expanding its offerings in Memphis, seeing an opportunity in the small group segment. Meanwhile, Cariten is enjoying brisk growth in its East Tennessee Medicare business.
