According to data reported to InterStudy Publications as part of the most recent National PPO Census, the estimated presence of PPOs in the health care insurance market continues to grow. An increase in covered lives of 6.9% was reported by responding PPOs between December 31, 2000 and December 31, 2001.

"BlueCross and BlueShield affiliated plans and independent firms experienced the largest increase," said Rebecca Waller, research specialist for InterStudy Publications. "Surprisingly, national managed care firms experienced an overall decrease in covered lives between year-end 2000 and year-end 2001."

The PPO Directory and Performance Report 3.0 is available to purchase from InterStudy for $600. Call 1-800-844-3351 or visit to order.
