InterStudy Publications, a division of Decision Resources that specializes in the managed care industry, announces the release of The PPO Directory and Performance Report 4.0, which finds a rise, albeit slight, in preferred provider organization (PPO) enrollment. According to the most recent PPO covered-lives data, this growth is lead by the national managed care firms Anthem, Inc., CIGNA Health Care, Inc. and UnitedHealth Group, Inc.

"Adding 2.5 million lives and nearly doubling in size, Anthem, Inc., reported the most rapid growth resulting from acquiring other PPOs and surges in covered lives in Kentucky and Ohio," said Rebecca Waller, PPO project manager for InterStudy Publications.

The PPO Directory and Performance Report 4.0 includes a brief examination of consumer-driven health plans and a more detailed look at the new PPO Medicare Demonstration Project. Both of these efforts have the potential to affect the health and growth of individual PPOs as well as the entire PPO market.

With data as of December 31, 2002, The PPO Directory and Performance Report 4.0 includes covered lives; PPO industry data trends; employer group, physician network, and contact information specific to the profiled 694 PPOs; and pharmacy benefit management information.
