InterStudy Publications, a division of Decision Resources, Inc., specializing in the managed care industry, announces the release of the MSA Profiler Database 13.2, which presents HMO data at the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) level. According to this new research, of all MSAs with at least a 50% penetration (i.e., percent of population enrolled in an HMO), the Los Angeles/Long Beach/Glendale, California market is the most competitive in the nation.

"The top three HMOs in this area account for 64.1% of the market, while twelve HMOs compete for the remainder of the market, each averaging less than 3% market share," said Lance Wolkenbrod, HMO project manager for InterStudy Publications. "Although there has been little change in relative market shares, the top three HMOs continue to define and drive competition in the region."

The MSA Profiler Database is the only credible source for nationwide HMO market share data at the MSA level. The MSA Profiler Database can be used to profile regional market presence by national managed care firms, align managed care salesforces, and identify areas of potential opportunity.
