HealthLeaders-InterStudy, the leading provider of healthcare market intelligence, finds Sierra Health Services extending its national reach by offering a new private-fee-for- service Medicare Advantage plan and increasing its stand-alone Part D plan from 10 states in 2006 to 30 in the coming year. According to the latest Nevada Health Plan Analysis, along with growth on the national level, locally, the insurer will be continue to draw members into its popular Medicare Advantage HMO, Senior Dimensions.

"Already the dominant player in Nevada, expanding nationally bodes well for the insurer in its attempts to increase membership and revenue for its senior-product offerings," states Lori Anne Parker, HealthLeaders-InterStudy market analyst. "The insurer's total book of business experienced 39 percent growth from 2005 to 2006, the bulk of which due to Sierra's Part D stand alone."

Sierra has been approved by the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services to offer a Medicare Advantage PFFS plan in 28 states and the District of Columbia. Since the plan will be offered in many of the states where Sierra has its stand-alone plan, the PFFS does not include Part D coverage.

Locally, the insurer will focus its energies on Senior Dimensions. As one of two MA HMOs in the state to offer comprehensive formulary coverage in the doughnut hole, Senior Dimensions will attract more members in 2007 by selling its drug coverage at a $0 premium and $0 annual deductible. In 2006 many of Nevada's beneficiaries reached the doughnut hole earlier than they had anticipated, and some of them were unprepared to pick up the costs during the gap.

  Other health plan news in Nevada:   * Humana Inc. has launched a new individual insurance product, HumanaOne,     designed for uninsured individuals and families, and comes with two     options - a major medical PPO and high-deductible plan compatible with a     health savings account.   * Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Partnership Plan took over a new     Medicaid contract on November 1, which will run through June 30, 2009.
