HealthLeaders-InterStudy, a leading provider of managed care industry intelligence, finds that with only months to go before the latest round of Medicare Modernization Act reforms launch, Humana Inc. will offer regional PPOs in 16 of 26 regions. According to the latest issue of the Florida Health Plan Analysis, other Florida insurers are scrambling to make federal filings and develop a viable formula to eke out profits from regional Medicare PPOs or the Part D prescription drug benefit.

"Nationwide, many insurers have said they will offer the drug benefit but remain mum on regional Medicare PPO participation," said Heather Wicks, HealthLeaders-InterStudy analyst. "That's because the regions are spread over both rural and urban areas, which makes estimating actual risk extremely difficult."

Other Health Plan News in Florida: * Florida health plans are seeing a gradual increase in adoption of consumer-driven health plans. * Aetna Inc. spent much of the early spring expanding its Florida network. * Significant Medicaid reform passed the Florida legislature in its waning days.
