Principal Research Analyst - Healthcare Quality

Principal Research Analysts are known internally among DRG employees and externally among clients as key subject matter experts. These individuals keep up-to-date on the latest trends within their assigned areas of expertise by producing custom and syndicated market research focused on the provider industry. Principal Analysts are empowered to produce high-quality products with a high degree of autonomy and independence. Integral to maintaining client relationships, individuals in this role relate effectively—and with the highest degree of credibility—to hospital and health system executives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Primary and Secondary Research

  • Research growing and dynamic trends within the provider industry, including changing regulatory requirements
  • Conduct polling, surveys, and first-person interviews with hospital leaders and industry experts in order to report on key findings
  • Conduct secondary research to uncover literature, perspectives, and key insights relevant to the provider client base
  • Synthesize research to determine the implications for healthcare providers and the patient experience
  • Draft thoughtful, well-organized articles, reports, and presentations, as well as compose deliverables on key industry shifts and regulatory changes

Subject Matter Expertise & Thought Leadership

  • Provide expertise to drive content development and education of internal teams
  • Regularly contribute to blog, marketing materials, videos, and other thought leadership content
  • Assist in editing junior analyst work, ensuring quality and accuracy in order to develop talent

Client Relationship Management & Delivery

  • Interact regularly with clients to understand their needs, deliver targeted information and solutions, and use feedback to improve products and services
  • Assist in intaking, scoping, and delivering on client research requests, providing direction to junior team members as needed
  • Participate in on-site client visits with client engagement specialists or sales representatives
  • Support custom services/consulting engagements and related projects for healthcare clients
  • Attend industry conferences to learn about trends and client needs, to present our insights, and to understand our competitors


  • Undergraduate degree with a proven record of success (degree in healthcare field strongly preferred); an MPH or other advanced degree is a plus
  • 3–5 years of relevant job experience
  • Process improvement experience and/or Lean Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Mature communicator capable of handling high-profile clients
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Superior writing and presentation skills
  • Proven project management skills
  • Highly self-motivated and demonstrates initiative
  • Highly adaptive and flexible in adjusting to evolving demands; ability to balance multiple priorities and handle tight deadlines
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (database experience a plus)
  • Willingness to travel to meet client needs – potentially up to 25%
