1. AS HEALTH COSTS CONTINUE TO BITE, PATIENTS FOCUS ON WELLNESS AND PREVENTION

Nearly half (45%) of U.S. adults have experienced an increase in health expenses over the past 2 years. Understanding health costs is the number one health-related challenge identified by U.S. adults, and finding ways to save money is right behind it. The issue of increasing costs impacts consumers across generations and forces them to shop around and take preventive actions.

 

2. MOBILE HEALTH IS SET TO SURPASS DESKTOP DEVICES FOR HEALTH INFORMATION USAGE

Consumers’ use of smartphones to access health information is nearly at parity with use of desktop/laptop devices, and Millennials are already mobile-first for health. Smartphone users are most often doing their research using search engine keywords (68% do so most of the time or frequently).

 

3. PATIENTS ARE USING VOICE SEARCH TO FIND HEALTH AND RX INFO

44% of U.S. online adults have used voice search or voice assistant for health in the past 12 months, with younger patients driving this trend (63% of adults ages 18-34 have used voice search). Among voice search users, nearly 1 in 3 have searched for info on a branded prescription drug by name.

 

4. CONSUMERS WORRY THAT AI APPLICATIONS WILL TAKE THE HUMAN TOUCH OUT OF HEALTHCARE

U.S. consumers see some potential for AI health applications, but value physicians and want AI tools to support their doctors in decision making – not to replace them.
