What do you get when you combine four days of presentations on cutting-edge developments in medtech, an exhibition floor of over 1000 medical device manufacturers and service providers, and the unmatched energy of New York City? The Medical Device and Manufacturing East Conference! We had the pleasure of attending MD&M last month, and it was quite the experience.
DRG kicked the conference off with a strong start: we presented on Global Trends in Medical Device Outsourcing following the keynote address on Monday morning. Our presentation outlined the benefits and challenges associated with outsourcing medical device production. We also highlighted how outsource manufacturing could be used as a market access strategy for manufacturers looking to expand into emerging markets. The presentations that followed delved into the specifics of outsourcing regulations; it was an informative session.
We had the opportunity to attend several sessions covering innovations in medtech. Advances in eHealth and 3-D printing were covered extensively; an entire day was dedicated to each of these topics, respectively. These markets certainly capture a lot of interest among medical device manufacturers and will be areas to monitor closely in the future. One presentation on the future of 3-D printing in medtech forecasted a CAGR of 15% over the next five years.
Overall, MD&M East was an impressive conference and we hope to attend again in the future.
