How Many People Have Accessed or Would Like To Access Health Data on a Doctor-Hosted EHR?

Fifty-six million U.S. consumers already have accessed their medical information on an electronic health record system maintained by their physician, according to a Manhattan Research survey.

The survey also found that 41 million U.S. consumers are interested in accessing their health care information through an EHR system maintained by their physician.

In addition, the survey found that 140 million consumers have not used and are not interested in accessing medical data from an EHR system maintained by their physician.

According to the survey, consumers who are not interested in doing so are older, less educated and less likely to go online or own devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Results are based on an online and phone survey conducted in the third quarter of 2011 of 8,745 U.S. adults.
