Seventy-four percent of U.S. nurses recommend health-related Web sites to their patients, according to a survey by Manhattan Research.

Twenty percent of U.S. nurses said they did not recommend health-related Web sites to their patients, while 6% said they did not know.

According to the survey, the average nurse spends eight hours per week online for professional purposes -- the same amount as physicians.

The survey also found that more than 80% of U.S. nurses have visited a pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device company Web site in the past year.

Results are based on a Q2 2009 online survey of 1,001 U.S. practicing nurses and physician assistants.
